My Top Salon Trusted Picks
Shampoos & Conditioners
L’Oréal Absolut Repair Molecular range: Sulfate-free and ideal for keeping colour-treated hair soft and healthy. If your hair is quite fragile, the treatment may be suitable for frequent use in place of a conditioner, otherwise you may prefer Pro Longer or Vitamino as your conditioner.
L’Oréal Metal Detox range: Blondes living in areas with hard water often find this dulls their hair, and leaves it brassy. Metal Detox gently cleanses the hair of mineral build up with its sulfate-free formula, keeping your blonde bright in between appointments.
Pro Longer Conditioner: Leaves long hair deeply nourished and silky-smooth. The 750ml conditioner is really good value, however I don’t recommend the matching shampoo as it contains SLS/SLES.
Vitamino Conditioner: Quite similar to Pro Longer but more suitable for shorter hair as it’s not as heavy. I don’t recommend the matching shampoo as it contains SLS/SLES.
Color Wow Color Security: Another sulfate free option, I’d recommend this range for coloured hair with no other particular concerns. The conditioner comes in 2 different formulations depending on your hair texture.
Wella Color Fresh Mask: Available in a range of colours, from platinum blonde to spicy copper! I recommend using this instead of purple shampoo to my blonde clients as it gives more even, and consistent results.
Insight Shampoo & Conditioners: I have not personally tried this range, however, they have lots of options for different scalp/hair concerns and it is free from SLS/SLES, parabens, minerals, etc. Their products are vegan and the packaging is fully recyclable. The shampoo & conditioner duos are really good value for money - let me know if you try Insight, I’d be interested to hear your feedback!
Styling
1. Color Wow Raise the Root
For: Added root volume on damp or dry hair.
Why I Love It: Instant lift for fine hair without weighing it down. Apply on dry hair before blow drying it in for mega volume.
2. Color Wow Dream Coat
For: Anti-humidity protection that makes hair frizz-free and smooth.
Why I Love It: Acts like a “waterproof jacket” for your hair, perfect for Scotland’s weather! It does need to be applied generously for full effect. A clarifying shampoo is required to fully remove Dream Coat from the hair, or you may experience product build up.
3. Color Wow Money Mist
For: Leave-in conditioning, heat protection, and detangling.
Why I Love It: Adds shine and makes styling a breeze - ideal for fine, easily tangled hair. Plus, you don’t need to heat style to feel the benefits of Money Mist, it works just as well on air dried hair!
4. L’Oreal Tecni Art Beach Waves
For: Beachy, lived in textures
Why I Love It: Salt spray can leave a sticky residue on the hair, which can end up more birds nest than the chic & undone. Beach waves helps softly texturise the hair giving body but maintaining pliable.
5. OSIS Dust It / Soft Dust
For: Volume & texture
Why I Love It: Dust it is great for shorter hair or MEGA root volume, but can feel quite sticky. Soft Dust is a gentler powder, giving similar but softer results, I’d recommend Soft Dust to those with longer hair.
6. Wella EIMI Thermal Image
For: Heat protection
Why I Love It: It’s lightweight and has light conditioning properties, making it suitable for fine hair too.
Keep Your Colour Vibrant Between Visits
For the best results, I always recommend selecting a shampoo that addresses scalp concerns first, then select your conditioner based on what your hair needs. As long as your shampoo is SLS/SLES free, it will be safe for coloured hair. I email aftercare instructions to all of my colour clients, so they have something to refer back to, and I recommend a wide range of different products as I am not affiliated with any one brand.
